Covering the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area and Makalu Barun National Park, Kanchenjunga Lumba Sumba Pass is a recently allowed trekking destination by Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN). You shall be making to Makalu region from the Kanchenjunga region via the Lumba Sumba Pass, which is the highest point you shall make in this trek. Throughout the trek, you shall enjoy the beautiful diversity of vegetation and wildlife, such as snow leopard, red panda, etc. Olanchung Gola boats several high mountain lakes. Travelling via alpine fields, enduring the harsh temperature, crossing the tributaries of Arun and Tamor rivers, through subtropical-forest, you shall gather the most phenomenal experiences in this Kanchenjunga and Makalu region.

You do not require any extreme body fitness to cover this trek. A moderate level of fitness capable enough to endure long duration of walking for days in a row is sufficient to complete this trek. Ensure that you do not have any problem with your ankles and knees. This trek is a blend of adventure, possibility for cultural exploration, spiritual awakening, and staggering views of mountains, breathtaking natural beauties, and rich hospitality of various ethnic communities.

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu
Altitude : 1,320 m
 
Welcome to Nepal. Our representative shall receive you from the Tribhuvan International Airport and take you to your hotel. You can do some shopping for your trek. We shall be sitting together in the short debrief session in the late afternoon, and then we shall be enjoying the Welcome Dinner at a popular restaurant of the town. Stay overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 2 : Flight to Bhadrapur/Drive to Ilam
Altitude : Ilam: 3,636 m
 
You shall make the domestic flight to Bhadrapur which is located at the Terai region of southeastern part of Nepal. Via the intimidating fields of remote areas and small towns, you shall drive for 5-6 hours to reach to Ilam, climbing the foothills. Once you reach Ilam you shall experience slight drop in the temperature. Stay overnight at Ilam.

Day 3 : Drive to Taplejung/trek to Mitlung
Altitude : Taplejung: 1,820 m; Mitlung: 909 m
 
Driving alongside the river belt, witnessing the beautiful landscape and snow covered mountains, you shall reach all the way to Taplejung. Our crew members including guides and porters shall meet you at Taplejung. Then, you shall start you trek descending downhill via small settlements witnessing the growing cardamom and Alnus trees and reach Hangdewa Khola. Further trekking brings you to the junction of the river with Tamor River taking you to Mitlung. Stay overnight at Mitlung.

Day 4 : Trek to Chiruwa
Altitude : Chiruwa: 1,246 m
 
You shall walk beside Tamor River, by the paddy fields, and pass through dense forest and arrive at Siwa Bazar. Walking alongside the Tamor River you shall arrive to the Tawa Village. From Tawa Village, which is located at an altitude of 1,146 m, you shall ascend to Thiwa Village. Descending downhill takes you to the Chiruwa Vilalge. Stay overnight at Chiruwa Village.

Day 5 : Trek to Lelep
Altitude : 1,687 m
 
Walking along the Tamor River, you shall pass several villages and cardamom and rice fields, before arriving at Tapethok. At Tapethok, you need to show your permits before entering into the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project. Trekking further, you shall reach to Pembu, from where you shall climb for a couple of hours to reach at Lelep. Stay overnight at Lelep.
 
Day 6 : Trek to Ela Danda
Altitude : Ela Danda: 2,051 m
 
Passing through the dense forest, you shall ascend for 45 minutes to reach at Sango Chhoyalling Gompa, after crossing the river via the suspension bridge. From the Gompa, you shall descend down to Gowatar. Passing beside the beautiful waterfalls you shall reach Phedi Khola. An ascent of an hour takes you to Ela Danda. The Danda offers you the magnificent views of Kasturi peaks. Stay overnight at Ela Danda.

Day 7 : Trek to Jogim Kharka
Altitude : Jogim Kharka: 2,635 m
 
Through dense forest of rhododendrons and Alnus, you shall cross the river by a suspension bridge. Passing through the bamboo forest you shall reach to Maguwa Kharka. Further exploring your trail via forest rich in chestnut, oak, maple and rhododendrons, you shall pass the Selep Kharka. An hour from Kharka takes you to Jongim Kharka. Stay overnight at Jogim Kharka.

Day 8 : Trek to Olanchung Gola
Altitude : Olanchung Gola: 3,208 m
 
You shall climb to Ramite through the forest after crossing the river via the suspension bridge. Witnessing the red pandas, if you are lucky enough, and passing beside the waterfalls, you shall arrive at Olanchung Gola. Olanchung Gola boasts some 50 wooden houses and an ancient, which is believed to be 470 years old, monastery situated at the top of the village. Stay overnight at Olanchung Gola.

Day 9 : Trek to Snajung Kharka Camp
Altitude : Snajung Kharka Camp: 3,910 m
 
Trekking alongside the Tamor River, following the ancient route of the traders, you shall make through the river belt before crossing the river. Passing through the Lagmale Village, you shall continue your journey towards the Snajung Kharka Camp. This place is believed to be an attractive destination for camping. Stay overnight at Snajung Kharka Camp.

Day 10 : Trek to Pass Camp
Altitude : Pass Camp: 4,700 m
 
You shall make through yak pastures and several foothills. Today's trek takes you to the area that is renowned for the snow leopard. Keep your eyes open. This trail is really remote, and you shall make this trek witnessing the wonderful views of mountains and beautiful landscape. Ultimately, you arrive at the Pass Camp. Stay overnight at Pass Camp.
 
Day 11 : Trek to Lumba Sumba La-Yak Kharka
Altitude : Lumba Sumba La: 5,177 m; Yak Kharka: 2,877 m
 
Passing the ridge, you arrive at the first pass; several other passes are still waiting to be conquered. The top of the Lumba Sumba La offers you the magnificent views of Jannu Himalaya range, Kanchenjung range, and the Makalu region. From the Pass, you shall descend downhill penetrating into the valley taking you to the Yak Kharka. Stay overnight at Yak Kharka.

Day 12 : Trek to Jungle Camp
Altitude : Jungle Camp: 3,350 m
 
Descending down, you shall pass yak pastures before making through the forest full with rhododendrons. Then, you shall make through the Umbak La Pass. Goods were traded through this place between Tibet and Nepal. You shall arrive at Thudam Village inhabited by Sherpas that contains 30 wooden houses. Through the steep valley trail, you shall ascend to a pass with an altitude of 3,370 m. Stay overnight at Jungle Camp.

Day 13 : Trek to Yak Kharka
Altitude : Yak Kharka: 2,877 m
 
You shall ascend through bamboo forest after making through the steeply landslide. This place offers you with the best views of Makalu and landscape. Further descending takes you to a place appropriate for camping, with its small clearing. Stay overnight at Yak Kharka.

Day 14 : Trek to Lingam School
Altitude : Lingam School: 2,320 m
 
Descending further through the dense forest of rhododendrons, you shall ascend to Yak Kharka via the ridge; the place offers you the spectacular view of the Arun Valley. Descending down to the Arun River, you shall cross the river via the suspension bridge and ascend to the Chyamtang Village. Trekking further takes you to Lingam School. Stay overnight at Lingam School.

Day 15 : Trek to Hatiya
Altitude : Hatiya: 1,595 m
 
Passing through several villages you arrive at Gimber Village. You can notice the rise in the temperature. This village offers you staggering views of Makalu Himalayan Range. Trekking further leisurely you shall arrive at Hatiya. You can find the village influenced by Tibetan culture. As you arrive at Hatiya, you also arrive at the mouth of Makalu-Barun National Park. Stay overnight at Hatiya.
 
Day 16 : Trek to Gola
Altitude : Gola: 1,128 m
 
Trekking alongside the Arun River, you shall arrive at the junction of Arun River and Barun River. Trekking further takes you to the Gola Village. Gola Village is inhabited by Rai, Sherpa, and Tamang communities; and the village contains only 12 houses to stay at. Stay overnight at Gola.

Day 17 : Trek to Hedanga Gadhi
Altitude : Hedanga Gadhi: 1,179 m
 
Descending downhill, you shall pass through paddy fields witnessing the hillsides boasting overlooking the Arun River, and arrive at Pathibhara. There are lots of tea houses, homestays and shops at Pathibhara. Trekking further, you shall arrive at Hedanga Gadhi located at the middle of town market consisting hotels, shops, health post, police station and school. Stay overnight at Hedanga Gadhi.

Day 18 : Trek to Num/Drive to Tumlingtar
Altitude : Num: 1,572 m; Tumlingtar: 450 m
 
Descending downhill, crossing the Arun River you shall arrive at Chiuribas. From here, you shall catch a bus to Tumlingtar. Here, you shall celebrate the success of the trek with guides and porters, who shall not be available tomorrow onwards. Stay overnight at Tumlingtar.

Day 19 : Flight to Kathmandu
Altitude : Kathmandu: 1,320 m
 
From Tumlingtar, you shall return back to Kathmandu via a flight. You might love to allow a generous amount of rest to your body, to ease off all your exhaustion. Lamenting upon the phenomenal moments and staggering memories that you made during this trek. Stay overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 20 : At Kathmandu
Altitude : Kathmandu: 1,320 m
 
You can visit some of the World's Heritage Sites enlisted by UNESCO such as Pashupatinath Temple, Swoyambhunath, Boudhhanath, Basantapur Durbar Square, etc. You can do some shopping for your departure journey back to your country. We shall be sitting together in Farewell Dinner at a popular restaurant of the town. Stay overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 21 : Departure
Get ready with your bags and luggage, our representative shall take you from the hotel to the airport within sufficient time before your departure flight. We shall bade our goodbyes and farewell. Have a safe journey back to your country.
